HOST COMMUNITIES PLEDGE SUPPORT TO AKS-RAAMP ROAD PROJECT
Stakeholders of the Ibiaku Obio Ndobo – Adadia road in Uruan Local Government Area, under the backlog maintenance component of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), have pledged their utmost cooperation to ensure the seamless progress and completion of the project.
The four communities along the road corridor— Ibiaku Obio Ndobo, Ikot Akan, Ikot Akpa Ekang, and Adadia—made the pledge recently during a sensitization exercise organized by the Akwa Ibom State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (AKS-RAAMP) for the communities, ahead of the commencement of physical construction works on the road.
In their respective presentations, the AKS-RAAMP team, which included Mrs. NseAbasi Udom (ESO), Lead Infrastructure Engineer Engr. Ekong Inyang, Mr. Asuquo Essah (SSO), and Akan Esinwang (DCO), noted that among other things, the objective of the exercise was to solicit cooperation and support from all community members for the project’s success. The team encouraged the benefiting communities to take ownership of the project for optimal results and further advised them on the consequences of sexual exploitation and abuse, child labor, and other vices during the construction works.
Responding, the village heads of the four communities and other stakeholders pledged their maximum cooperation to facilitate the job completion in record time and advocated for the employment of youths from the communities by the contractors. They thanked the World Bank and the Akwa Ibom State Government for considering the road corridor traversing the four communities for the project and further pledged their continued loyalty and support to the current administration of the state.
The highpoint of the event was the introduction of the project contractors, Akpaven Integrated Limited, and the supervising consultant, Yaroson Partnership, to the communities.
